Although the company is mostly known for making high-quality gaming computers, Razer is also famous for producing some of the best peripherals in the business. Among its latest lineup are a web camera and a microphone that were specifically made for streamers. The camera comes with a selfie light and the microphone offers discreet recording capabilities.
Video game streamers like the content creators on Twitch rely on being able to show their faces while also offering just the right amount of light in order for them to game smoothly. The Kiyo is Razer’s solution to this issue by being equipped with a ring of LED light with up to 12 levels of brightness, Engadget reports.
With regards to the video quality itself, streamers can choose between 720p at 60 frames per second and 1080p at 30 frames per second. The quality of the video output is already quite appealing for only $100 but the ring of light allows content creators to stream videos without needing any other light source.
Aside from the webcam, Razer is also offering the $100 Seiren X microphone, which comes with a removable desk stand. This allows streamers to place it anywhere that will not interfere either with their gaming session or the live stream.
On the other hand, there might be a few obstacles for the Kiyo that Razer will need to overcome. As The Verge notes, very few of the streamers on YouTube, Twitch, or any of the other video hosting sites seem to have lighting problems.
Most would simply need to turn off every other light aside from a desktop lamp or perhaps a corner light to get enough illumination to stream. The only people who might need something like the Kiyo are those who like to game in total darkness and don’t want their viewers to see their surroundings.
