‘Reign’ season 4’s episode 2, titled “A Grain of Deception,” is scheduled to follow the continuing rivalry between Mary and Elizabeth as the two queens struggle to defeat each other. Meanwhile, Catherine is set on reclaiming her lost power over the realm.
The synopsis for “A Grain of Deception” posted on TV Guide reads, “Mary (Adelaide Kane) learns there's a traitor within her inner circle of advisers, and she's determined to unmask the guilty party. Meanwhile, Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) seeks Narcisse's (Craig Parker) help as she tries to expand her power; and Catherine (Megan Follows) is desperate to reclaim some of her lost power.”
According to International Business Times, Mary was forced to test her brother James’ (Dan Jeannotte) loyalty after discovering his meeting with Protestant leader John Knox (Jonathan Goad). At this point in the series, the Queen of Scots is determined to uproot any traitors she may have in her midst.
Back in England, Elizabeth managed to free Narcisse and his son. It was revealed that John Know was the one behind her assassination attempt. Elizabeth will enlist Narcisse’s help in the upcoming episode as she attempts to prevent Mary from taking hold of her throne.
Episode 2’s promo reveals that Elizabeth will have to forge a shocking alliance with John Knox himself despite his efforts to kill her off. Elizabeth is seen meeting with John Knox as they plot their next move.
He says, “Mary’s return is inconvenient for both of us.” The English queen replies, “There be a way we can work together I imagine.”
Meanwhile, Mary is dealing with problems of her own after she discovers that there is a traitor in her most trusted circle. By the end of the promo, she is seen having an argument with James, who tells her, “You have sought to destroy every alliance I have worked so hard to build.” In her anger, Mary yells, “The only alliance you should have is with me!”
In France, Catherine will do everything she can to take back her lost power over the land.
