The success of “Resident Evil 2” is a testament that the gaming community is still in need of more horror genre. And while the reimagining’s story isn’t as riveting compared to titles like “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” or “Nier: Automata,” its strength comes from the constant dread that it provides.
Indeed, the Licker alone is enough to deliver that spine-chilling experience that only “Resident Evil 2” can dish out. Even those who have extensive knowledge and experience about the franchise couldn’t help but feel sickened by the sight of the Licker, let alone deal with the abomination itself.
And it’s this claustrophobic, anxiety-inducing journey that made “Resident Evil 2” an instant hit among young and old players alike. Indeed, the sales of the reimagining are enough evidence of its success.
Gamespot previously reported that “Resident Evil 2” has shipped over 4 million copies since it released with the figure still rising as word of mouth spreads. And now, data is showing that the game also accumulated more than one million sales in the Steam platform alone.
With glowing reviews from both critics and fans alike, “Resident Evil 2” is quickly ensuring that Capcom will be reviving its successor, “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.” For now, however, the studio remains reticent about the matter.
But if the sales performance of “Resident Evil 2” is anything to go by, it’s safe to assume that the topic of refurbishing “RE3: Nemesis” has at least been discussed by the developers. Even the web is already rife with rumors about it, the latest of which is coming from Aesthetic Gamer (via Daily Star).
According to the site, “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis” will hit the market “sooner than people are probably expecting.” It also touts that the next reimagining will not be developed by the same team that handled “Resident Evil 2,” which is an interesting claim.
Of course, since Capcom hasn’t revealed their plans in the future, it’s best to remain skeptical about this one. This is despite the fact that the site does have a history of correctly predicting details about upcoming games involving this franchise. As for “Resident Evil 2,” it’s expected that it’ll enjoy a few more months of positive revenue before its hype finally dies down.
