The upcoming free downloadable content for Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 game is only a few months away, and the publisher released a new trailer featuring franchise icon Chris Redfield. Since the first Resident Evil game, the sharp-shooting protagonist has made multiple appearances. In the DLC titled “Not A Hero,” this fan-favorite character comes back to splatter monster blood on the walls.
In the video, Chris is playable in the first-person view, the same as the main game. In the brief seconds that his face was shown, it also seems like the zombie-slaying soldier has undergone some major facial reconfiguration. The most noteworthy parts of the clip, however, are the gameplay elements showed off, which contain some notable differences compared to the story mode.
The video opens with Chris putting on his combat suit helmet and getting instructions to find a team of three people. From there, the trailer proceeds to showcase some of the weaponry and combat moves that will be at their disposal when playing as the Resident Evil mainstay.
The enemies really are not anything new and fans of the classic games might be disappointed to know that there was not a single zombie (at least, not in the traditional sense) in sight. Then again, the FPS elements seem tight and the monsters themselves seem reasonably deadly, so it will likely pose a challenge to a lot of players.
As Engadget notes, however, the trailer does come off as a bit flat and unsatisfactory. The visuals seem to be right up there, with the graphics really showing off even the smallest disgusting detail on the monsters. Then again, it is a free DLC and this is Chris Redfield that players will get to run around with, so it’s likely that it will generate quite a bit of hype among long-time fans of the franchise.
“Not A Hero” will be available for download on December 12th for all owners of Resident Evil 7.
