Ronnie Apteker, a South African entrepreneur and filmmaker based in Kyiv, says stories of ordinary life help international audiences understand Ukraine during the war, the Kyiv Independent reported Nov. 8.

Apteker discussed stereotypes about Ukraine abroad and the weariness that can build around coverage of a prolonged war. He said reporting should also follow people keeping businesses operating, raising families and pursuing creative work amid the conflict.
