Russian lawmakers dismissed a European leaders' summit in London, claiming it lacked a concrete plan to resolve the Ukraine war. Konstantin Kosachev, head of Russia’s upper house Foreign Affairs Committee, said Europe had no strategy and that Ukraine’s best hope lay in improved U.S.-Russia relations. He criticized the summit as a failed attempt to cover up years of Western efforts to provoke Ukraine against Russia.
Leonid Slutsky, chairman of Russia’s lower house International Affairs Committee, dismissed the meeting as useless, saying it would not salvage Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s political standing. He referenced Zelenskiy’s unsuccessful talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, calling the summit a failed bid to restore his credibility.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ridiculed the gathering on X, labeling it a "coven" of leaders pledging allegiance to Ukraine’s government and a "shameful sight."
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who hosted the meeting, announced plans to draft a Ukraine peace proposal for U.S. consideration. He stated that Britain, France, and other allies would form a "coalition of the willing" to craft a diplomatic solution.
Zelenskiy expressed optimism, noting strong European support despite his recent setbacks. He suggested future discussions with Trump could continue under a revised approach.
The London summit highlights ongoing geopolitical tensions, with Russia dismissing European diplomacy while Ukraine seeks strategic support from the West.
