Russia carried out one of its largest aerial assaults on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 23 people and injured more than 130. The large-scale attack struck several Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv and Dnipro, intensifying concerns about the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the growing humanitarian crisis.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that intelligence reports suggested another major Russian attack could follow within hours. He urged citizens to remain alert and respond immediately to air raid warnings. Zelenskyy also renewed calls for additional air defense support from Western allies, emphasizing that Ukraine lacks sufficient resources to intercept a significant number of incoming missiles and drones.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched more than 70 missiles and approximately 650 drones overnight, followed by another wave of drone attacks during the day. Kyiv suffered extensive damage, with residential buildings, offices, medical facilities, and educational institutions affected. Power outages left around 140,000 residents without electricity, while tens of thousands sought refuge in the city’s subway system.
The Kremlin described the conflict as entering a “new phase,” citing alleged attacks by Ukrainian forces on civilians. Russia has warned of continued strikes against Kyiv, while Ukraine maintains that Moscow is deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. Both sides continue to deny intentionally attacking civilian populations.
International concern has grown following the latest escalation. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the attacks and reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire and diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged international partners to impose stricter sanctions on Russia and increase military assistance.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the attack included ballistic missiles and Zircon hypersonic missiles, among the most advanced weapons used during the war. Russia stated that the strikes targeted military-industrial facilities and defense production sites.
As the conflict enters another critical stage, Ukraine continues to seek advanced air defense systems, including Patriot missile interceptors, while world leaders monitor the rapidly evolving security situation.
