Russia and Ukraine exchanged heavy aerial strikes as the prospect of a 30-day ceasefire remained uncertain. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed conditional support for the proposal but vowed to continue military operations until key conditions were met.
Russia’s defense ministry reported shooting down 31 Ukrainian drones overnight. Sixteen were intercepted over Voronezh, nine over Belgorod, and the rest over Rostov and Kursk. Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed three injuries, including a child, due to drone strikes that sparked fires in Gubkinsky and Dolgoye. Officials in Voronezh and Rostov reported no casualties or damage.
Ukraine also faced Russian drone attacks. Firefighters in Chernihiv battled a blaze in a high-rise after a strike, while Ukrainian media reported explosions near Kyiv. The country’s air force had earlier warned of drone threats to Kyiv and central regions. By 0300 GMT, no official reports of damage in Kyiv had surfaced.
Meanwhile, Russian forces advanced toward expelling Ukrainian troops from their foothold in the Kursk region, intensifying hostilities despite ceasefire discussions.
As the conflict stretches into its third year, continued aerial assaults underscore the fragile state of peace negotiations. The situation remains tense, with both sides showing no signs of de-escalation.
