Russian forces carried out a large-scale combined drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, early Tuesday, causing significant disruptions to essential infrastructure and injuring at least one person, according to city officials. The overnight assault targeted multiple areas of the city, highlighting the continued intensity of Russia’s strikes on critical urban centers amid the ongoing war.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack struck the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, damaging infrastructure that supplies electricity and water to parts of the capital. Writing on Telegram, Klitschko confirmed that both power and water services were disrupted following the strike. He also reported that a non-residential building was hit during the attack and that one individual sustained injuries. Emergency crews were dispatched to assess the damage and restore essential services as quickly as possible.
Images and videos shared by unofficial Telegram news channels showed high-rise residential buildings plunged into darkness, underscoring the impact of the attack on everyday life in Kyiv. Residents reported sudden power outages in several districts, while local authorities urged people to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines during air raid alerts.
Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, provided additional details, stating that a storage facility had been damaged in the strike. Several vehicles were also set on fire, adding to the destruction caused by the combined missile and drone barrage. Firefighters and emergency responders worked through the night to extinguish flames and secure affected areas.
The attack on Kyiv is part of a broader pattern of Russian aerial assaults that increasingly rely on a mix of missiles and drones to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses. Such attacks often aim to disrupt critical infrastructure, weaken morale, and strain emergency response systems. Ukrainian authorities continue to emphasize the resilience of the capital and the rapid response of defense and emergency services despite repeated strikes.
As the conflict continues, Kyiv remains a frequent target, with residents facing ongoing risks to infrastructure, safety, and daily life. Officials have reiterated calls for international support to strengthen air defense capabilities and protect civilian populations from future attacks.
