Sam Heughan was recently unavailable to appear personally at Wizard World Chicago to the dismay of fans. Aside from Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, and Graham McTavish were to be present at the Q&A panel for “Outlander.”
“Outlander” fan site ClaireandJamie reported that the Scottish actor was caught in between schedules of his shooting for the Valiant comic movie adaptation “Bloodshot” in South Africa and his appearance at the Wizard World convention. Sam Heughan made sure that fans who attended Wizard World Chicago to meet him were still able to through private Skype sessions with the actor. Heughan spent at least five hours chatting with fans online from his home kitchen.
Sam Heughan was not the only “Outlander” star with a disrupted schedule due to bigger opportunities. Caitriona Balfe had to reschedule her appearance to Thursday at Wizard World Chicago as well – skipping the Q&A session with the rest of the “Outlander” cast. Balfe's rescheduling comes during her busy schedule of shooting for 20'th Century Fox's “Ford vs Ferrari” film set for release in 2019.
Both Balfe and Heughan have canceled personal appearances at other conventions before such as the Official Outlander Convention in New Jersey. Both Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan opted to teleconference at the event instead – very much willing to interact with their fans despite their schedules. Fans who bought tickets with autograph passes were unfortunately unable to get Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe's autographs. Autograph pass holders were still able to meet with Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, playing Briana Fraser and Roger Mackenzie
With their schedules continuiing to get busier, fans of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe can be thankful that the upcoming installment to “Outlander” has already finished production and is simply waiting for its air date. Fans can look forward to the couple returning in “Outlander” season 4 when it airs its premiere episode on Nov. 4.
