Remembering where their car is parked is a huge hassle for drivers in the big city, especially when the parking lot or building is huge and sprawling. Fortunately, Google just added a new feature to its Maps service where users can save the position of their car when parked so that they can find it easily later on. This might just save a lot of drivers some headaches.
Saving the car’s position when parked is simple enough. Users simply need to park the car, take out their devices, open Google Maps, and the click on the location dot, Ars Technica reports. Upon pressing the button, the users will then be presented with the option to “save your parking.”
Once the parking location of the vehicle has been set, a letter "P" icon will appear on the map, indicating where the car is located. That icon will stay up as long as the user doesn’t disable the feature or if they don’t save another parking location.
For more complex parking spaces such as when the driver parked in a multiplex parking lot, more specific information can be stored. Users can specific the location of the dot, can add pictures of the parking space, and can also add some notes so that they never forget where the car is.
As TechCrunch points out, Apple had beaten Google to the punch with a parking location saving feature with its own Maps service in the past. However, Google’s offering has significantly more to give to users, which makes it the more attractive choice for those who are paranoid about where they park.
The service will even allow users to input additional information such as the amount of time that they have when using a parking meter. Once the timer comes to a close, Google Maps will remind the driver that they are very close to getting a ticket.
