U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Monday that he plans to personally attend the Supreme Court hearing this week regarding the legality of President Donald Trump’s tariff policy. The case, which has drawn significant national attention, is being described by Bessent as a matter of “national security” with major implications for the country’s economic future.

Speaking on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Bessent expressed his commitment to the issue, saying, “I’m actually going to go and sit, hopefully in the front row, and have a ringside seat. This is a matter of national security.” His remarks come as the Supreme Court prepares to examine whether Trump’s use of executive authority to impose tariffs aligns with constitutional and legal standards.

When asked whether his presence at the hearing might be interpreted as an attempt to influence or intimidate the Court, Bessent dismissed the idea. “I will emphasize that this is an economic emergency,” he said, reinforcing his belief that the tariffs are essential to safeguarding American industries and protecting U.S. jobs in a challenging global market.

The Biden administration, which inherited aspects of Trump’s trade policy, has faced ongoing pressure to clarify its stance amid debates over economic protectionism and global trade relations. Bessent’s decision to attend the hearing underscores the Treasury Department’s deep involvement in the issue and its concern over the potential economic consequences of the Court’s ruling.

As the hearing approaches, economists and policymakers are closely watching the outcome, viewing it as a pivotal moment for U.S. trade strategy and executive power in shaping national economic policy.
