Coupang's employees reached 43,171 employees in the third quarter to surpass Hanwha Solution as the third-largest South Korean business in terms of staff, following Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor.
The report by CEOScore was based on data from subscribers to the National Pension Service.
From February to September, Coupang added 13,744 employees, doubling the combined figure of Hanwha Solution, which added 3,025, and Samsung Electronics, which hired 2,895, in the same period.
The recruitment of Coupang delivery workers, dubbed as “Coufriends,” contributed immensely to the increase in its overall employment status.
As of July, Coupang hired over 10,000 delivery workers.
According to Coupang, they are trying to achieve shared growth through job creation like Samsung and Hyundai did during the economic growth period.
The company vowed to continue hiring and investing in a quality work environment.
