Sheldon Adelson, a known casino business magnate and biggest supporter of Donald Trump, passed away on Jan. 11. He was 87 years old.
As per Fox Business, Sheldon Adelson was being treated for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that was detected in 2019. He is still actively working for his company but recently stepped away so he can continue with his treatments.
Messages from politician friends poured in
It was suggested that he only resumed treatment last week, and now the sad news has arrived. With the announcement of his passing, personalities have expressed their condolences and sympathies through social media and other public outlets. As mentioned, Sheldon Adelson is a strong backer of Donald Trump, and on his passing, the POTUS issued a statement through the White House’s official website.
“Melania and I mourn the passing of Sheldon Adelson and send our heartfelt condolences to his wife Miriam, his children and grandchildren,” the POTUS said in a statement. “Sheldon lived the true American dream. His ingenuity, genius, and creativity earned him immense wealth, but his character and philanthropic generosity his great name.”
Former President George W. Bush also released a statement to express their sympathies.
"Laura and I mourn the passing of a friend," he wrote via the Bush Presidential Center. "He was an American patriot and a strong supporter of Israel and was a generous benefactor of charitable causes.”
About Sheldon Adelson
The 87-year-old billionaire was the founder and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp. He is a known casino mogul who started his casino business in 1989. His hotel and gambling business eventually led him to politics, and he became a major power broker in America and Israel.
He has been a donor of the Republicans for a long time now, and in the 2020 campaign alone, he was estimated to have given around $430 million to the conservatives.
Adelson Sheldon is survived by his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson. They have five children, and his net worth when he died was at $35.6 billion. It was revealed that he will be buried in Israel, the birthplace of his wife, but a memorial service is set to be held in Las Vegas.
