The action RPG Shenmue franchise has had a cult following since its launch in earlier console generations. Since then, the third title has had to be crowdfunded, with expectations for the end result being high. A trailer for the game was finally released but since it is just a teaser, tempering expectations is certainly advised.
Backed by Sony and now published by Deep Silver, this is the first teaser trailer for a game that a lot of fans have been waiting for. As Gamespot notes, it offers a small peek at what the final product is likely to be. Unfortunately, there seem to be some troubling indications that it won’t turnout as good as fans expect.
There are many aspects about this reveal that are worth pointing out before fans and other viewers start jumping on either bandwagon with regards to the game. As a crowdfunded title, the creator of the game had a limited budget to work with, especially when compared to other studios working on AAA games. It’s also a work in progress and launch is a long way off, so the game is still subject to polish.
Even so, it seems that the studio behind the project, Ys Net will need to do quite a bit of work in order to get the title up to the current gaming standards. Based on just the basic premise revealed by the trailer, however, the third installment of the franchise is looking promising, PC Gamer reports.
Many characters in the previous games will be making a return and the main character Ryo appears to be quite the wistful fellow, this time around. Whatever the case may be, judgment is best withheld until the final product comes out. What’s more, graphics are certainly not everything and with a good story, mechanics, and progression, there’s much to hope for with Shenmue 3.
