It has been almost two years since the last episode of 'Sherlock' season 3 aired and I am betting my life that you have watched it over and over again while waiting for the new episode to come. Well, you might have to watch the whole season again, or start from the first season for that matter, because 'Sherlock' co-creator Steven Moffat confirmed that filming will commence probably this April of 2016. That would mean that a tentative date for the premier of the fourth season will be on 2017. Too long right? But I am pretty sure that it will be worth the wait for Moffat cited that the reason for the long wait is to ensure its ''quality''. The production team wants to make sure that the fourth season will be as exciting and mystery-packed as the first three seasons.
'Sherlock' stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have already signed up for the fourth season and there are also rumors as to a new character joining the team. Remember the scene in the last episode where they were discussing about Sherlock's punishment and politicians fear that Mycroft may go easy on Sherlock because he is his brother? Well, Mycroft responded with this cryptic line, ''You know what happened with the other one.'' Many fans speculate that the other one Mycroft is referring to might be another brother and they are guessing that it may be played by Tom Hiddleston. Imagine this, Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch as brothers. Exciting right?! Moffat and Gattis haven't confirmed this though so let us not put our hopes up just yet.
On the other hand, viewers were shocked to see Moriarty's face show up in the television and fans are asking for explanations on this one. Sherlock himself saw Moriarty kill himself, so what really happened then? Showrunner Mark Gattis did not give a clear answer so as not to spoil the mystery.
So with all that mentioned, are you now as excited than ever for the upcoming season? If there really is a another brother, who would you want it to be? Comment your thoughts below.
