The longing for more “Sherlock” has some fans wondering whether Season 5 of the BBC series will indeed happen.
Earlier, co-creators Steven Moffatt and Mark Gatiss earlier assured fans that “Sherlock” will indeed return for Season 5. Gatiss said, “I mean, we didn’t draw a definitive line. We left it in a place where we thought we could leave it, and equally a place where we could come back to it. It really just depends.”
Moffatt also agrees, and had said that he would be “moderately surprised” if the show will not return for an additional season.
But at least one cast member knows when will it happen, Hellogiggles said. Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty in the series, told the British magazine TV program “The One Show” that any new “Sherlock” might not happen anytime soon.
“I don’t think there’s another series of Sherlock coming soon. I think another general election would come first!,” Scott said.
The general election in the UK happens every five years.
"We're not doing [Sherlock] for another couple of years. Everybody got quite busy, you know? You want to keep it fresh and stuff like that," he explained.
The Independent said that while BBC is optimistic about its plans to bring back “Sherlock,” Season 4’s ratings, which were an all-time low, might have forced the broadcaster to think twice about the decision to commission another season. But the news site posits that it might have to do with an episode leaking early in Russian.
