Many fans are wondering if “Shrek 5” is still coming because it has been a while since this was announced. After the announcement, Dreamworks or Comcast NBCUniversal became quiet, and no update was released since then.
With this said, no wonder fans are doubting now if “Shrek 5” will still be produced. But the thing is, it is still proceeding, but likely, the movie is only delayed.
Reason for the holdup
It was reported that the production of “Shrek 5” might possibly be postponed for a while to give way for the filming of the “Puss In Boots” movie sequel. This animation was also rebooted by Dreamworks and said to be in the works already.
Since the characters and people behind this film are closely related to “Shrek 5,” it would have been difficult to do the movie at once. It appears that they chose to release “Puss in Boots 2” first since they are focusing on it now. When the production is complete, then the fifth “Shrek” film will be the next priority.
Release date
“Shrek 5” film’s development began as far back as 2016, and it was reported that Michael McCullers was recruited to write its story and script. He took over to give the film a different vibe and fresh moments while still maintaining each character’s personality. Although it has been a while since the behind-the-scene works for this movie have commenced, the premiere date is not yet set as filming has yet to take place.
“Shrek 5” is a reboot
One thing that the moviegoers should note is that this latest “Shrek” film is a reboot and it is different from a sequel. This means that this is not a follow-up to the previous film that will pick up from where the fourth sequel left off.
There will a completely clean slate and McCullers, its new writer, will inject new storylines and ideas to create a unique concept and plot. Also, “Shrek 5” is aiming to showcase the modernized world so that the moviegoers will be able to relate to the scenes in the movie and not just present some kind of fairytale-like scenarios that people know are impossible to happen. In short, they are aiming for something realistic, but it should still be fun overall.
