“Shrek 5” is finally coming after years of waiting for its confirmation. The movie sequel was announced right after Comcast-NBC Universal buys Dreamworks Animation Studio. It was good news to the fans as their beloved animated movie is returning soon.
Now, as “Shrek 5” is now being produced under new management, it was given a new writer for a new beginning. They want fresh ideas for the fifth movie installment, so Michael McCullers was hired for the animation’s story and screenplay. Mike Mitchell, the director of “Shrek Forever After,” agreed that it was a good move to get the writer on board for the reboot of “Shrek.”
“They’ve got a pretty good story and it’s being written by Michael McCullers who wrote all of the ‘Austin Powers’ films,” Mitchell said. “He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring.”
Mitchell added that with McCullers in the team working for “Shrek 5,” he is has high expectations with the outcome. He said that he is sure it will reveal a very good turnout.
Moreover, “Shrek 5” creator Chris Meledandri added (via Variety) that the plot this time is very interesting. “When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” Meledandri said when commenting about the voice actors in the film.
The producers of “Shrek 5” further shared that their new movie would be fun to watch and the younger generations will appreciate it because they will be able to relate in many instances. It was not explained how this would happen, but it is likely that Shrek’s kids have grown up, so there will be stories related to the youths.
Finally, “Shrek 5” has no official premiere date yet but it was predicted to arrive this year or early 2020. The reboot is happening 10 years after the fourth movie sequel was released.
