‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 4’s episode 3, titled “Heads of State,” will follow Ichabod as he battles an old adversary, who threatens the lives of Washington’s officials.
The synopsis for “Heads of State” posted on TV Buzer reads, “When one of Crane's (Tom Mison) greatest foes comes to town to threaten the safety of Washington's highest officials, the team must work quickly to find a solution. Jake's (Jerry MacKinnon) extensive knowledge of the tunnels becomes an important piece of the puzzle as they uncover a secret from the past that could lead to answers.”
It seems that a new threat will be heading to Washington, D.C. to go after its high officials. Ichabod is set to re-encounter one of his greatest old adversaries and must race against time to keep the officials safe.
In the promo, Ichabod’s new partner Agent Diana Thomas (Janina Gavankar) confronts him about the new threat to which he only replies that it is an “abomination.” The next scene shows a creature on horseback firing shots from a rifle.
Diana tells Ichabod, “This thing is after the president and you’re the expert in this brand of craziness.” Ichabod warns her, “Nothing will deter him.”
Meanwhile, the preceding episode revealed that Diana’s 11 year-old daughter Molly (Oona Yaffe) is actually the next witness, succeeding Ichabod’s fallen former partner Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). Molly, known to be a mute, began talking again when she saw Ichabod.
During an interview with TV Line, Mison admitted his surprise at learning the plot twist. He said, “There were lots of different avenues that the new Witness could’ve gone down. An 11-year-old girl certainly wasn’t one that I saw coming.”
Mison continued, “For Ichabod, to see that it’s an 11-year-old girl, knowing the sort of battle that she’s entering, how could anyone be enthused? How could he be excited that he’s found the next Witness, when it’s a child?”
The 34-year old actor also revealed that although Ichabod and Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) decided against telling Diana about her daughter’s role in the battle between good and evil, he will break the news in the incoming episode.
Mison teased, “Crane does a scene in one of the episodes where he explains to Diana that the Witnesses in the Bible are only meant to be there to witness. There’s nothing in the Bible that says, ‘They go in with flaming crossbows and things.”
He added, “Ichabod and Abbie chose to fight, to battle against it. And Molly can choose a different route — which I suppose is one that he and Diana and Jenny would encourage.”
Meanwhile, Jake’s familiarity with the city’s large network of tunnels could help reveal important secrets from the past.
‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 4’s episode 3, titled “Heads of State,” is scheduled to air on Fox on January 20, 2017. It was directed by Kellie Cyrus and written by M. Raven Metzner. It will be followed by episode 4, titled "The People vs. Ichabod Crane," scheduled for January 27.
