The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be Qualcomm's first smartphone SoC to have unique Oryon cores, with the firm aiming to replicate Apple's A-series arrangement.
From a performance standpoint, we can anticipate it to be the greatest silicon San Diego has ever produced. The chipset's capabilities were said to have been tested in an engineering sample running Genshin Impact, and for a processor that has yet to be mass produced, it performs well.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Running In An Engineering Sample Supposedly Ran Genshin Impact
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's first performance test inside an engineering sample was shared on the South Korean online forum DC Inside, and the image was seen by @faridofanani96.
According to the machine translation, the chipset update is considerable, since Genshin Impact played for 45 minutes at 1080p resolution with no stability or performance difficulties. Since Genshin Impact is locked at 60FPS, the game most likely operated at that framerate, resulting in a smooth gaming experience.
Because it is an engineering sample running the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, there is a chance that the game can run at 60FPS at a higher resolution with some more tuning. Previously, we discussed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's Adreno 830 GPU performance, with the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test score said to be 10% quicker than the Apple M2 findings.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's Performance Teases Future Battle with Apple Silicon and MediaTek's Dimensity 9400
Even if it's a rumor, the fact that a smartphone SoC outperformed an Apple Silicon developed specifically for bigger form-factor devices like Macs is impressive, but there's still the issue of power consumption, which was not stated during the test.
Overall, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has a lot of potential, but we'll have to wait until commercial shipments to evaluate how Qualcomm's forthcoming flagship SoC compares to competitors. MediaTek is also set to introduce its 3nm champion, the Dimensity 9400, later this year, so it will be interesting to watch how the two compete.
