“God of War Ragnarök” will receive free DLC this month. Sony Santa Monica announced new DLC for 2018's Game of the Year — “God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla” — just seconds after Kratos' voice actor Christopher Judge made his triumphant (but significantly less winded) return to the stage during The Game Awards.
Sony Announces Free ‘God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla’ DLC
“God of War Ragnarök” Valhalla is a free DLC pack that will be available for the PS5 on December 12th. The DLC will take place after the climactic battle of “God of War Ragnarök” and will star Big Daddy Kratos and his BBF (that's bodyless best friend) Mimir as they combat monsters in dungeons.
“During each attempt, you will learn and adapt to the challenges Valhalla has to offer. The more you overcome, the more resources you’ll gain that can be put towards permanent upgrades that affect both Kratos and even Valhalla itself,” Sony stated on its official blog.
What To Expect From ‘God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla’ DLC?
Santa Monica Studio lead community manager Grace Orlady described the upcoming “God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla” DLC as a “surprise” to the “God of War” community. “To show our appreciation for the incredible support and love you’ve given the game since its release last year, our team has been working on a surprise for the God of War community. As fans of our fans, we’re thrilled to announce that on December 12, we’ll be releasing a free DLC as a gift to our players – God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla,” she stated.
According to the Video Game Chronicle, the game will differ from the main “God of War” series in that it will emphasize rogue-like gameplay. In other words, the game will have roguelike features, with Kratos reawakening outside the gates of Valhalla to face the game's challenges once more. “The team here at Santa Monica Studio challenged ourselves to make something different from anything we have done before in God of War history,” Grace revealed.
“God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla celebrates the combat you know and love from God of War Ragnarök and blends it with fresh, experimental elements inspired by the roguelite genre. Each attempt in Valhalla will encourage you to master different aspects of Kratos’ arsenal as you face new combinations of enemies and some surprises along the way,” she went on.
