South Korean firms sold 3,089 excavators in China in May to nearly double their sales from last year.
The brisk sales were attributed to a rebound in the Chinese property market and delayed demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Doosan Infracore, South Korea's largest construction equipment maker, sold 2,166 excavators in May to nearly double its output in China from a year earlier, while Hyundai Construction Equipment Co. sold 923 excavators, which is 44 percent more over the cited period.
However, South Korea's excavator sales in May were much less from those in April when Doosan Infracore sold 3,239 while Hyundai Construction Equipment sold 1,553.
There were 29,000 excavator units sold in China in May, up 76 percent from 16,774 units from last year.
But due to weak exports to Europe and North America, the South Korean excavator makers have slowed production at their local plants in June.
