Coupang, a leading e-commerce firm in South Korea, announced the launch of its new Rocket Delivery service in Taiwan. With this new venture overseas, the company is looking to duplicate the same success it has achieved in its country for its same-day delivery service in Southeast Asia.
Coupang, which is also one of the largest brands in the country, has debuted its flagship rocket delivery service in the Taiwanese land, and this was confirmed by the company on Wednesday, Oct. 26. According to The Korea Times, through the new service, all products that were directly purchased by Taiwanese customers from Coupang will be delivered to their doorsteps for free.
The opening of its cross-border e-commerce service is part of Coupang’s business expansion in Asia, but it also has another goal, and it is to help small and medium-sized businesses in South Korea as well. Since they will be selling their wares on the platform, the company is hoping the rocket delivery service will eventually boost their sales too.
Coupang further said that these small businesses actually put in 90% of the items that are available for the rocket delivery service in Taiwan. What’s more, the service will also make overseas deliveries so much easier for the vendors because, under the scheme, Coupang will handle most of the process, including the logistics, customs clearance, import tax collection, and finally, the delivery to the homes of the Taiwanese customers.
In other words, the Seoul-headquartered firm will manage most of the expenses and organize the entire sales process overseas. This will leave the sellers with very few things to do and think about after selling their merchandise.
Sellers can dedicate more time to their business, and with this, they can focus more on growing their overseas markets. Coupang is also offering this opportunity to small business owners without additional costs on their end, so the rocket delivery service will surely be a big help to them.
“We are constantly working to change the lives of everyone who works with Coupang, including hundreds of thousands of small business owners,” Coupang said in a press release. “While Korean products are particularly popular with Taiwanese customers, Coupang's services are connecting Taiwanese customers with small businesses in a whole new way, and given the enormous potential of Taiwan's e-commerce market, we believe that our challenge is only the beginning.”
Coupang further said, “We will continue to work hard to find ways to break trade-offs and create better value for customers and small businesses around the world through continuous global business expansion.”
