‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ will feature Tom Holland in the title role. Stan Lee, former president and chairman of Marvel Comics, praised Holland’s work as the newest Peter Parker. Filming has officially commenced in Atlanta ahead of the scheduled 2017 premiere.
According to the Independent, Marvel’s Stan Lee was all praises for Tom Holland during a live Q&A session at the Denver Comic Con. He said, "Oh, he's wonderful! I was with him the other day. He is great! I can't believe it. It's as if we created a living being to be Spider-Man, and it turned out to be him."
Lee appeared on the panel to discuss his thoughts on the recent ‘Captain America: Civil War’, where Holland made his debut as the masked web slinger for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
When asked about his favorite character, Lee replied, "Well, I love them all, but -- if I have to pick a favorite -- I think it would have to be Spider-Man. Good ol' Spider-Man!”
He joked, “Have you ever noticed I call him Spidey? I used to call Iron Man 'Shell Head.' I had nicknames for all of them. Over at DC, they never called Superman 'Supey,' or Batman 'Batty.' I wonder why they're so formal... but that's not part of this. Forget that I said that!"
Meanwhile, according to IGN, principal photography for Marvel and Sony’s upcoming standalone ‘Spider-Man’ film has finally kicked off in Atlanta, Georgia on June 20. It is scheduled to continue until mid-September.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director James Gunn broke the news on Twitter by posting a photograph of himself together with Holland and Chris Pratt. It was captioned, “Break a leg @TomHolland1996 & @jnwtts as you star your Spider-Man: Homecoming journey!” Gunn wrapped filming for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ ahead of its scheduled premiere for May 5, 2017.
According to Business Standard, Holland also shared a photograph of his movie set char on Instagram. He captioned it, "First day on the job and I already got my chair #SpiderMan:Homecoming.” Joining Holland in the new cast are Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Logan Marshall-Green, Kenneth Choi, and Hannibal Buress among others.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ is an action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released in the United States on July 7, 2017. It is directed by Jon Watts. It is produced by Marvel Studios and Columbia Pictures and distributed by Sony Entertainment.
It is intended as the second reboot of the ‘Spider-Man’ film franchise. The first ever film based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name was released in 1977. It was rebooted by Sam Raimi for 2002’s ‘Spider-Man’, 2004’s ‘Spider-Man 2’, and 2007’s ‘Spider-Man 3’. It starred Tobey Maguire in the title role of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man.
It was then remade once more by Marc Webb, who released two films starring Andrew Garfield entitled ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. Both reboots earned a total of $1.5 billion at the domestic box office.
