‘Star Trek Beyond’ actor and screenwriter Simon Pegg suggested that viewers steer clear of trailers and other promotional spots before they go off to watch the actual film after breaking away from social media temporarily. Meanwhile, Idris Elba’s villainous Krall revealed his human side on the latest television spot.
According to The Wrap, Pegg advised his Twitter followers that they avoid all promotional material such as television spots and spoilers until they get to watch ‘Star Trek Beyond’, scheduled for release on July 22. The Twitter post from July 18 read, “If you are planning to go see Star Trek Beyond, Simon suggests you avoid all TV Spots and trailers from this point forward.”
It was reported that the actor and screenwriter has not been manning his own personal accounts since announcing that he would be taking a break from social media platforms. He withdrew from social media last November 2014 after declaring, “I’ve decided to give Twitter a break for the time being … I haven’t been enjoying it for a while now … Ultimately, I think we’ve just grown apart. What I’m saying is, it’s not you, it’s me.”
Pegg is also known for openly critiquing the upcoming film’s first ever promotional trailer. Last December, he said, “I didn’t love it, because I know there’s a lot more to the film … a lot more, what I would call, ‘Star Trek stuff.’ But they’ve got to bring a big audience in. They’ve got to bang the drum.”
Meanwhile, a newly released television spot featured Idris Elba as the villainous alien Krall. According to Comicbook.com, it was revealed that Krall had a human form once as seen on footage discovered by Captain Kirk and his team. In the personal log, Krall says, "The Federation do not care about us… They abandoned this planet long ago. They'll probably never seen me again. But if you do, be ready."
Elba plays a puritanical Swarm leader who openly despises the Federation’s philosophy. He fights to defend their independence from the interstellar federal republic created to co-exist under a central government.
Director Justin Lin teased during a previous interview, “When [Idris] came in, he had a lot of [prospective] projects and when I talked to him about this character, it wasn’t about this or that it was about building or having a philosophy or point of view. And I like his character because his character is really challenging the way of the Federation’s philosophy and there are a lot of things that when I was growing up I wanted to see.”
‘Star Trek Beyond’ is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film scheduled to premiere on July 22, 2106. It is produced by Paramount Pictures, Bad Robot, Skydance Productions, Sneaky Shark, and Perfect Storm Entertainment. It is the sequel to J. J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’, which grossed $467.38 million worldwide on a production budget of $190 million.
