‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ will feature Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role as a younger Han Solo. Charlie Cox of ‘Daredevil’ explained why he lost out the important role because of a botched audition. Production for the new standalone film is set to begin on January 2017 in London.
According to /Film, Cox admitted to auditioning for a role that was possibly for the Han Solo standalone film in the planned Star Wars anthology. He realized that he lost the much-coveted role to play a young Han Solo because of his habits of playing blind superhero Matt Murdock on Netflix’s web television series ‘Daredevil’.
Cox said, “I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot— and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind.”
He added, “I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.”
According to Outer Places, thousands of actors auditioned for Disney to get the role but it ultimately went to Alden Ehrenreich. The 26-year old American actor made his feature film debut in Francis Ford Coppola’s 2009 independent film ‘Tetro’, working alongside Vincet Gallo and Maribel Verdu. He went on to appear in subsequent films ‘Blue Jasmine’, ‘Stoker’ and ‘Beautiful Creatures’ before landing the role of Hobie Doyle on the Coen Brothers’ ‘Hail! Caesar’.
According to KFTV, the upcoming standalone film is scheduled to begin production on January 2017 in London as confirmed by co-writer Lawrence Kasdan. The original Han Solo was played by Harrison Ford, who returned for a final appearance on J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’. The new film is set to feature a young Han Solo as he goes on adventures before getting involved with the Rebel Alliance.
‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film scheduled to premiere in the United States on May 25, 2018. It is part of Disney and Lucasfilm’s planned anthology of standalone films in the ‘Star Wars’ cinematic franchise.
