Starbucks Corporation announced it is hiking up the wages of its baristas and other store workers. The coffee chain also revealed a list of new benefits that await the employees in 2024.
According to CNN Business, Starbucks is raising the hourly wage of workers starting in January. The company will offer at least a three percent increase, however, this new pay scheme may only apply to those who have not unionized.
Eligibility to the New Pay Increase
Starbucks’ announcement of salary increases and new benefits is truly exciting news for the employees. However, not everyone may enjoy the offerings because only non-union workers in the United States are eligible.
Moreover, those who have been working at Starbucks stores for 2 to 5 years will get a pay raise of at least 4%. Others who have been serving the company for at least five years will receive around a 5% increase.
For unionized employees - they will receive whatever amount of hikes they were locked in last year. This means that some workers, including those who are unionized, will get an increase ranging from 3% to 5%.
Starbucks’ Commitment to Improve Employee Experience
The coffeehouse chain’s decision to raise the pay of its baristas comes after it reported an annual revenue of nearly $36 billion, with same-store sales soaring 8% compared with the previous fiscal year. In any case, Starbucks already invested more than $1 billion in its employees last year to retain workers and improve its stores, CBS News reported.
“In line with Starbucks' unwavering commitment to elevate the partner (employee) experience and offer partners a bridge to a better future, the company is proud to introduce the latest in partner investments,” Starbucks said in a press release. “These developments include accruing paid vacation time sooner, continued investments in partner pay, innovative financial well-being and skills-building benefits, partner-centric scheduling, and the introduction of the first-ever North America Barista Championship.”
Sara Trilling, Starbucks executive vice president and president of North America, also said, “Investing in our partners is what drives our success. It is what makes us all partners and an important way we do this is by investing in our partners’ journey, to bridge to a better future at Starbucks and beyond.”
She added, “This entails engaging with and listening to, their ideas and feedback while continuing to raise the bar by offering competitive pay and the best benefits package in the industry. This independent study from AON has validated we are an industry leader in our work to enhance the partner experience.”
