Stellantis is investing over $406 million in three Michigan facilities to support its multi-energy strategy. The investment will fund the production of electrified vehicles, including the Ram 1500 REV and Jeep Wagoneer, across the Sterling Heights, Warren Truck, and Dundee Engine plants.
Stellantis Allocates $406 Million to Michigan Plants for Ram 1500 REV and 2025 Ramcharger Production
Stellantis has disclosed its intention to allocate more than $406 million to three Michigan facilities to implement its multi-energy strategy.
Stellantis' $406 million investment will be allocated to the Warren Truck Assembly Plant, the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, and the Dundee Engine Plant, per Teslarati.
The Ram 1500 REV will be manufactured at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP), the first Stellantis factory in the United States to produce a completely electric vehicle (EV). The organization will invest $235.5 million in SHAP.
The electrified RAM 1500 REV pickup truck is anticipated to be released later this year. The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant will also manufacture the all-new 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which extends the range, in conjunction with internal combustion engine models. The Ramcharger is equipped with a gas engine and a battery-electric motor.
“The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant has performed an incredible transformation in record time, and I want to thank our colleagues for this outstanding achievement.
“Gearing up to build our first-ever Ram electric truck and the range-extended version in Michigan is a meaningful moment of pride for our teams,” said Tavares.
Stellantis Invests $97.6 Million in Warren Plant to Build Electrified Jeep Wagoneer by 2025
Stellantis intends to retool the Warren Truck Assembly Plant (WTAP) to manufacture the electrified Jeep Wagoneer, a vehicle anticipated to be released worldwide by the end of 2025. WTAP will receive an estimated $97.6 million in investment from the legacy automaker. The electric Jeep Wagoneer will be manufactured on the same production line as the internal combustion engine (ICE) versions of the Jeep model, which include the Wagoneer, Wagoneer L, Grand Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer L.
“With these investments supporting both Jeep and Ram, we’re adding innovations to our Michigan manufacturing footprint to support a multi-energy approach that is laser-focused on customer demand,” the Stellantis CEO added.
Stellantis will allocate over $73 million to its Dundee Ending Plant (DEP). It will be retooled to construct, weld, and test battery trays for the company's STLA Frame architecture and to produce the front and rear beams for the STLA Large architecture. Stellantis' DEP is anticipated to commence production on the STLA Frame this year and the STLA Large architecture in 2026.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares spent time in the United States during his vacation, and as a result, the legacy automaker is making progress with its production facilities. Stellantis' facilities in the United States were in disarray before Tavares' arrival.
