‘Stranger Things’ season 2 has reportedly commenced filming its final two episodes as revealed by a new on-set photograph posted by cinematographer Tim Ives. The series is set to explore the aftermath of Will Byers’ return from the mysterious Upside Down.
According to Screen Rant, filming for the final two episodes of the upcoming season of Netflix’s highly popular science-fiction and horror web television series has finally begun. Cinematographer Tim Ives published a sneak peek of the current filming set on his personal Instagram account showing his chair against a backdrop of tall and spindly trees. The image was captioned, “My on set chair back against familiar woods. We start filming the final 2 episodes of season 2 tomorrow. Super stoked and melancholy at the same time. #setlife #strangerthings #ruleofthirds.”
It was reported that Ives’ on-set photograph was reminiscent of the woods shown in an unforgettable scene in season 1’s finale, where Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) left Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) favorite Eggos in a box. The cliffhanger finale begged the question of Eleven’s return but Brown’s reprisal as the psychokinetic young girl has long been confirmed for season 2.
According to the Independent, the upcoming season will follow the lead characters a year after the events of season 1. Co-creator Ross Duffer previously revealed, “I think we talked like a larger time jump where the kids are older now and it’s a different decade… That’s something we batted around from the very beginning. But for us, there’s still more story here [in the 1980s], there’s still things that are unresolved.”
The season’s official synopsis reads, “A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins.”
Season 2 is also set to follow Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) as he suffers the traumatic effects of his containment in the mysterious and dismal Upside Down world. It was speculated that he may transform into something sinister since returning to his home in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana.
Co-creator Matt Duffer teased, "He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down—the question is whether they’re real or not… So it seems like he’s having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder."
‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is expected to premiere on Netflix on October 31, 2017. It will feature the return of main actors such as Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, and Finn Wolfhard and will also introduce new characters portrayed by Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery, and Sean Astin.
