Microsoft’s most recent addition to its detachable laptop/tablet lineup has had battery problems since release. As a fix to the issue, the company is going to release a new update for the “Surface Pro 3” in order to address the matter of the major battery drain. This is great news for a lot of users, but there are those who are not completely mollified by the fix.
Since last July, Microsoft has been telling owners of the detachable unit that the problem with the battery lies with the software and not the hardware, Slash Gear reports. So now that the software is set to be fixed when the update is released, many users would undoubtedly be relieved.
Unfortunately, there are those who paid $450 as the replacement fee for their units. The payments were made before Microsoft could release the statement regarding the real cause behind the “Surface Pro 3” battery issues.
It’s more than likely that these customers will be compensated for their expenses, but there has been no word as to when this will happen. More to the point, there is yet no set date as to when the update would even be released, according to a post from Microsoft.
"We can now confirm that this Surface Pro 3 battery capacity question is not a hardware issue, but one that can be addressed with a software update,” the post reads. “Our team has been working on and is now testing, an update that will address this. We’ll publish the update as soon as it has passed our quality assurance process. For now, you should not consider replacing your device as an update is pending."
The International Business Times also noted how some owners actually decided to buy new “Surface Pro 3” units instead of waiting for a fix or just paying the replacement fee. These users are likely to feel the most displeasure at the news that they did not need to shell out more money for the battery fix.
