‘Switched At Birth’ season 5’s episode 2, titled “This Has to Do With Me,” is set to follow Daphne and Mingo as they spark controversy after their costume at a party goes viral. Meanwhile, Bay is set on applying for a job at a tattoo parlor.
The synopsis posted on TV Guide hinted at some trouble for Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch) as they spark controversy with their offensive choice of costume at party. Part of the synopsis reads, “A photo of Daphne and Mingo dressed up as famous singers at a party goes viral, prompting a discussion on race relations and free speech.”
It would be interesting to see how Daphne and Mingo address the situation. It is yet to be known whether Mingo is truly remorseful for his portrayal of a person of color.
The promo opens to the two realizing that they are on the receiving end of hate with Daphne saying, “People hate us.”
According to International Business Times, the previous episode titled “The Call” followed Daphne and her ex-boyfriend attending a costume party as friends. The two remained amiable even after Mingo told her that he was dating someone else.
However, Mingo’s Lil Wayne costume fueled ire of some partygoers, specifically Iris (Sharon Pierre-Louis) who found it quite insulting.
The rest of the synopsis reads, “Meanwhile, Bay (Vanessa Marano) seeks a job a tattoo parlor; Kathryn (Lea Thompson) and John (D.W. Moffett) court a new shortstop; and Regina (Constance Marie) and Luca work on a school project together.” It seems that Bay won’t be able to get over her short stint in China as a tattoo artist and will continue her passion for the trade back home. She is set on applying for a job at a tattoo parlor.
‘Switched At Birth’ season 5’s episode 2, titled “This Has to Do With Me,” is scheduled to air on February 7, 2017 on Freeform. It was directed by D.W. Moffett and written by William H. Brown and Liz Sczudlo. It will be followed by episode 3, titled "Surprise," directed by Stephen Tolkin.
