Tesla Contacts Cybertruck Owners to Replace Drive Units in Study, Aiming to Boost Efficiency and Reliability

As evidenced by photographs from a few customers this week, Tesla has contacted a few Cybertruck customers to replace their drive units as part of a study.

On July 2, Kyle Conner of Out of Spec Studios shared the exciting news on X. In a conversation with Tesla Service, he was informed that they would “replace one of your current drive units with the latest production pedigree, which is intended to significantly improve efficiency and reliability.” This promising update not only brought a wave of optimism but also sparked excitement within the Cybertruck community, highlighting the positive impact of these replacements.

The news was also discussed on the Cybertruck Owner's Club forum throughout the week, where a few other owners reported receiving comparable messages. According to Teslarati, this active participation from the community is a testament to the shared interest and involvement in Cybertruck's development. One of these users reported possessing an AWD dual-motor Cybertruck, while Conner has the tri-motor Cyberbeast configuration.

Tesla Addresses Drivetrain Vibrations, Offers Free Updates and Enhances Cybertruck Production in Texas

Other forum members observed a minor vibration in the drivetrain; however, it is unclear whether the two incidents are connected now. Nevertheless, Tesla is providing both updates at no cost, and the motor switch is being made available to a limited number of participants to install a new drivetrain.

Tesla initiated voluntary recalls in late June, covering an issue with the windshield wiper motor and an inadequately adhered trunk bed trim. The automaker continues to produce its "Foundation Series" Cybertrucks, delivered during the early launch phase, and is increasing production at its Gigafactory in Texas.

Tesla's commitment to enhancing the Cybertruck is unwavering. The company's continuous implementation of improvements, such as the recent drive unit replacements and the upcoming charging enhancements, should instill confidence in the Cybertruck community about Tesla's ongoing support and development of the vehicle.
