U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi condemned a surge of attacks on Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) facilities, labeling them as "domestic terrorism." The Department of Justice (DOJ) has already charged multiple individuals, with some facing mandatory five-year minimum sentences.
“The swarm of violent attacks on Tesla property is nothing short of domestic terrorism," Bondi stated, vowing severe consequences for those involved, including those funding or coordinating the attacks.
The wave of vandalism has targeted Tesla facilities and vehicles across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, coinciding with rising public outrage against CEO Elon Musk. U.S. President Donald Trump, a vocal Musk supporter, has also hinted at classifying the attacks as domestic terrorism. To show solidarity, Trump even purchased a Tesla at the White House.
Much of the backlash against Musk stems from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency, which led to widespread federal layoffs and funding cuts. Critics also point to his alleged connections to the alt-right and his support for a controversial party in Germany’s recent elections.
As Tesla navigates these growing threats, the DOJ’s crackdown signals a tough stance against the perpetrators. The company has yet to release an official response.
