Tesla’s New Supercharging Stations Is A Big Step For EV Industry

Once again, Tesla is making huge advancements in the field of electric cars, this time unveiling its new Supercharging stations meant for city drivers. These charging platforms are smaller than their older counterparts, but they are also more convenient. As a result, they can be placed all around cities for easier recharging of electric cars.

As The Verge points out, Tesla currently has almost 1,000 Supercharging stations all over the US. Unfortunately, there aren’t enough of them to fulfill every electric driver’s needs. More to the point, city drivers have a particularly difficult time finding recharging stations. That’s what these smaller Superchargers are for.

Each of these new charging units can deliver up to 72kWh of energy to cars, which is considerably smaller than the 120kWh that the bigger Supercharging stations can offer. This means that they take longer to fully charge EVs at about 45 to 50 minutes. Then again, the sacrifice is offset by the fact that there will be more of them in every city, which provides the advantage of increased availability.

According to Tesla’s blog post with regards to the announcement, these Supercharging stations will be constructed near supermarkets, shopping centers, and central areas of every city. This would then allow drivers to run errands or conduct business meetings while their cars are charging.

“Supercharger stations in urban areas will be installed in convenient locations, including supermarkets, shopping centers and downtown districts, so it’s easy for customers to charge their car in the time it takes to grocery shop or run errands. They also have the same pricing as our existing Superchargers, which is far cheaper than the cost of gasoline,” the post reads.

The blog post also emphasizes the matter of the Supercharging stations’ design. The smaller and simpler nature of the units makes installation easier and cheaper.
