“The Elder Scrolls 6” is still years away, but it’s already making a lot of waves on the web. One of the major reasons for this is due to the fact that “Skyrim” will be turning eight years old two months from now.
The gaming community has been asking a lot of questions about “The Elder Scrolls 6” and Bethesda has been hesitant to go into details about the game. One of the things that have been revealed, however, is that it will have a long lifespan.
Specifically, “The Elder Scrolls 6” will supposedly have a longevity of at least 10 years. With “Skyrim” maintaining its relevance nearly a decade after its release, this claim does carry some weight.
The Elder Scrolls 6 and its supposed 10-year life span
Bethesda bigwig Todd Howard previously said that one of the factors that will contribute to this supposed longevity is the technology of “The Elder Scrolls 6.” Here’s what he had to say about the matter.
“I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, 'That sounds like you don't even have the technology—how long is that going to take?’ “And so it's something that's going to take a lot of time, what we have in mind for that game,” Howard said. Does this mean that “The Elder Scrolls 6” will be built on a new engine?
The Elder Scrolls 6 and the evolution of a game engine
That is unlikely. Swapping engines for a huge title like “The Elder Scrolls 6” is always a risk since the developers will be working with something that they aren’t familiar with. What’s more, even if the developers are using the Creation Engine – the engine running “The Elder Scrolls” and “Fallout” series – it doesn’t mean it’s outdated, Gamesradar reported.
It’s important to remember that game engines don’t stay stagnant; they evolve with each title that goes through it as the developers tweak and improve the system to ensure that it is in line with the current trend. With the “The Elder Scrolls 6” expected to come out 2024 or 2025, the Creation Engine will be so much different than what we see now. In any case, we’ll be seeing how this engine will have improved once “Starfield” hits the shelves in 2021.
