Bethesda has been hounded with relentless questions about “The Elder Scrolls 6” for many years, and those queries are not going anywhere despite their previous statements about the title. ‘The Elder Scrolls 6’ is certainly in the pipeline
As mentioned, questions about “The Elder Scrolls 6” are never absent in every video game conventions after “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” was released in 2011. So it was then not surprising that Bethesda decided to address one of the biggest questions about the franchise’s future.
During E3 2018, the game publisher surprised fans by officially announcing “The Elder Scrolls 6.” The announcement trailer did not have much information to offer, though. It only showed fans a terrain of a seemingly foreign land and a mountainous region. Releasing the very brief teaser likely means that early efforts in developing the next game have started. But Bethesda is unlikely focused on it at this point for one reason.
It’s not getting released before ‘Starfield’
That reason is “Starfield.” Bethesda has been promoting this all-new RPG set in space since it is the company’s first IP for 25 years. With this much on the line, it hints at Bethesda devoting the majority of its resources to make the game as impressive as can be once it is released.
Bethesda bosses have also repeatedly told fans not to expect “The Elder Scrolls 6” until “Starfield” is released. This, again, signals that the new space epic is the company’s priority. The one problem is “Starfield” has yet to be provided a release date window, and this might be indicating that it is also quite far from getting launched. With the way things are looking, “The Elder Scrolls 6” might not be released in a decade since its predecessor came out.
Will ‘The Elder Scrolls 6’ be exclusive to next-generation consoles?
The gaming community is now at the crossroads of the current and next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. It is very likely for “The Elder Scrolls 6” to be developed mainly for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, especially if the game is still many years away from getting released.
There is a potentially very long period that would lapse from the next-gen consoles’ launches to the release of the next game. Perhaps the bigger question is whether or not “The Elder Scrolls 6” would still support the PS4 and Xbox One systems.
‘The Elder Scrolls 6’ probably doesn’t have an official title yet
One of the first things that went around the rumor mill since “The Elder Scrolls 6” was announced was that it would be titled “Redfall.” Fans and anonymous leakers have various reasons to believe that is what the next would be called. Some believe the location shown in the announcement trailer gave it away while others point to ZeniMax’s trademark application for “Redfall.”
None of these claims have been confirmed by Bethesda, so it is best to take them with a heaping serving of salt. It is possible that “The Elder Scrolls 6” is already given an internal codename since it is most likely in early development. But its official title might not be finalized until it is closer to getting launched.
