During Valve’s huge DOTA 2 tournament called The International, the company announced an upcoming game that attendees waited for with bated breath. Once the title was revealed, however, a collective groan could be heard from the crowd as gamers expressed their disappointment. It turns out that Valve is planning on releasing a card game called Artifact and the internet is not happy.
As Ars Technica notes, perhaps it would have been for the best if Valve had decided to wait until the end of The International competition to announce its new game since it has now overshadowed what would have been a completely enjoyable event. The disappointment that gamers felt is understandable as well since they have been waiting for the company to announce a new title for years.

Instead of a sequel to one of their existing franchises or perhaps a remaster of their classics, the company went with something that everyone is considering is a cash grab on Valve’s part. Apparently based on DOTA 2, Artifact is meant to occupy the same space as Blizzard’s massively popular Hearthstone property
During the announcement, however, the company gave nothing more indicative than a logo and a brief explanation as to what it’s going to be. It’s no wonder that it elicited groans of disappointment among those who attended.
Fans have made their feelings clear over on YouTube as well, where the teaser video of the game was posted. With 17,000 Dislikes to 2,000 Likes as of writing, it’s clear that most people are not happy with what Valve has planned.
As GeekWire notes, gamers have been complaining over on social media, as well. Twitter is getting flooded with complaints about Valve’s decision to get into the card game phase, with many expressing their rage at being treated with such disrespect despite waiting for six years for the company to make an announcement about a new game. Clearly, card games weren’t on the table.
