It took more than five years for producers to announce “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2. Whatever the reason may have been behind the delay, the anime adaptation is likely having more installments as a new decade begins.
'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 production
Just when fans least suspected it, “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 was announced last October. Aside from its production getting confirmed, it was also revealed that the new episodes are slated to premiere sometime in 2020.
It has also been reported that “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 is having fewer episodes compared to season 1. The first anime installment was based on the light novel series’ volume 1 to 4 and 6 to 7. Meanwhile, season 2 will only cover the Visitor Arc in volumes 9 to 11. Fans should not worry, though, because there are more indications that season 2 is not going to be the final installment.
Volume 30 is the latest light novel arc. It came out last September and also marked the franchise’s milestone of 10 million copies published. Oricon also reported that “The Irregular at Magic High School” was the eighth best-selling light novel titles of 2019 with more than 429,000 copies sold between Nov. 19, 2018, to Nov. 17 this year.
It is a huge achievement considering that, at the time, it had no anime adaptations to rely on to boost its popularity. With Tsutomu Sato’s series being one of the most followed titles, it would not be surprising if “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 is followed by more installments in the coming years.
'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 release date
Fans who were able to follow the first season can do some advance reading. They can start at the light novel’s ninth volume to get ahead of what will happen in “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2.
On the other hand, fans could also choose to be patient for a few more months. Having “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 announced in fall could be hinting at a release date window within the first half of 2020.
