“The Last Kingdom” Season 3 is expected to be released this year. While Netflix hasn’t announced an official date when it will come out, Express reports that it’s likely going to air by the end of 2018.
Alexander Doetsch, the actor playing Uhtred of Bebbanburg, posted a video on Twitter stating the production of “The Last Kingdom” Season 3 is going swimmingly. The upcoming installment is slated to have Uhtred embark on new adventures as he attempts to take back his rightful home.
“The Last Kingdom” Season 3 will have its plot based on the fifth and sixth books of its original source titled “The Burning Land” and “Death of Kings,” respectively. In it, Uhtred will further solidify his bond with Ragnar (Tobias Santelmann) after he left King Alfred’s (David Dawson) side. The decision comes in the midst of Uhtred refusing to swear fealty to the ruler’s son.
Obviously, the entire plotline of “The Last Kingdom” Season 3 is being kept under wraps. However, an educated guess can be made based on the promotional photos released by Netflix. One particular image that fans latched on is Uhtred riding a horse and wearing a new look which appears to be Nordic by design.
This hints that Uhtred is slowly being influenced by those around, with the snowfall suggesting he has indeed spent the winter with Ragnar. Of course, this is pure speculation at this point. And even if “The Last Kingdom” Season 3 is pulling its plotline from the fifth and six books of “The Saxon Stories,” it’s still difficult to know what Netflix is going to include in the upcoming installment.
What’s more, the writers could also add their own spin to the plotline, which has been done by other shows in the past. “The Last Kingdom” Season 3 will air exclusively on Netflix as opposed to the previous installment, which was broadcast on BBC Two. And since it’s being handled by Netflix, the episodes will be available in one go, giving fans the liberty to binge-watch the entire season to their hearts’ content.
