‘The Mick’ season 1’s episode 4, titled “The Balloon,” is set to follow Mickey as she attempts to throw Ben a birthday party after everyone forgets. Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the new comedy series will be getting four additional episodes on Fox.
The brief synopsis for “The Balloon” posted on TV Muse reads, “When Mickey (Kaitlin Olson) learns they've all forgotten Ben's (Jack Stanton) seventh birthday, the family is forced to put their selfish tendencies aside for one day and throw him the celebration he deserves, which proves way harder than it sounds.”
It seems that Mickey will have another chance at being the mother figure for Ben and his spoiled siblings Sabrina (Sophia Black D’Elia) and Chip (Thomas Barbusca) when she decides to put together a birthday party after realizing that everyone has forgotten Ben’s special day. However, it sounds like chaos will soon ensue despite Mickey’s good intentions.
Mickey had her chance with Sabrina in episode 3, titled “The Buffer,” when she tricked the teenager into taking birth control pills. Sabrina was resistant to any form of contraceptive throughout the entire episode.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Black D’Elia recalled, “There was a moment where [Olson] and I were trying to make an IUD funny where I said to her, ‘This is pretty cool that you and I are sitting on a couch talking about an IUD on network television… There was something that felt special about that to me.”
D’Elia admitted that the episode reminded her of the conversations she had with her own mother saying that she found the script hilarious since it mirrored real-life.
Meanwhile, it was that the new comedy television series on Fox has been commissioned four additional episodes. According to Deadline, the extra episodes will bring season 1’s total to 14 episodes. The premiere hit a 3.7 rating in Nielsen’s Live+7 numbers, making it the biggest comedy debut for the 2016-17 season.
‘The Mick’ season 1’s episode 4, titled “The Balloon,” is scheduled to air on January 15, 2017. It will be followed by episode 5, titled "The Fire," scheduled for January 17.
The new sitcom follows Mickey, an irresponsible grafter who finds herself taking care of her estranged sister Poodle and her wealthy husband Christopher’s three children after the two are arrested for fraud and tax evasion. When she gets a call from Poodle that she and her husband are leaving the country, Mickey is forced to continue caring for the children.
It was created by Dave Chernin and John Chernin, producers for Olson’s other sitcom ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.’
