About a week ago, “The OA” season 2 finally arrived on Netflix. Fans who have been waiting for it for the past two years have most likely binged on all eight episodes already. So now they are back to asking when does “The OA” season 3 arrive?
There might be some good news on “The OA” season 3 at this early stage. Jason Isaacs, who plays Hap in the series, dropped some major clues hinting at the availability of stories enough to warrant at least three more installments.
Isaacs revealed to RadioTimes that showrunners Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij have enough materials to produce “The OA” season 3 through season 5. “They’ve got all five seasons mapped out in their head. They did before they started.”
The “Harry Potter” alum added that he thinks this deep well of stories is likely one of the reasons why Netflix was convinced the series is worth producing, hopefully, at least through “The OA” season 3. “They arrived with this thing that was fully-formed. It’s their singular voices. It doesn’t bear the stamp of any kind of executive development,” Isaacs added.
The actor added he is also a big fan of the series and he is so invested in seeing more of “The OA.” Isaacs said, “I hope to god that people like the show as much as I do because we’d like to get a season three, four and five.”
Unfortunately, there is no assurance that having the story well-developed in Marling’s and Batmanglij’s mind is an assurance that “The OA” season 3 could arrive faster than the second season did. It took more than two years for Part 2 to stream on Netflix last March 22.
It can be recalled that Marling, who also plays the titular protagonist, explained at length why an 8-episode series such as “The OA” season 2 took so long to produce. As she previously said on Instagram, the series does not have a ready-made source material and they practically have to write everything from scratch. While she and Batmanglij may have an idea of how the show would go in “The OA” season 3, it does not guarantee a faster pre-production process.
