“The Orville” season 2 is set to return this year. Fox released its first trailer as a teaser at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con that was held last weekend.
During the conference, lead star Seth MacFarlane (Ed Mercer) shared what the viewers can expect from “The Orville” season 2. “I think what you’re going to see in Season 2 is a show that’s even more comfortable in its footing in terms of existing in that goldilocks zone,” he said. “Every episode feels like a movie, and I think you’re going to dig it.”
“The Orville” is a comedy series that was initially created as a spoof of “Star Trek.” But later, it gained its own huge followings, so despite the critics’ negative feedback, comparing it to the popular sci-fi series, it prospered and was even renewed for another season.
“The Orville” season 2 will have at least 14 episodes in total. As to why it has few episodes, MacFarlane explained, "I’d rather do fewer episodes and have them be better content-wise than do 22 and have them be filler," TV Guide quoted the actor and drama creator as saying.
New Cast
The show first aired on Fox last year. The series is set 400 years into the future where a crew works inside a spacecraft as they explore the space. It was created by MacFarlane and he will be supported by other great actors such as Adrianne Lee Palicki (Commander Kelly Grayson), Scott Grimes (Lt. Gordon Malloy) and Penny Johnson Jerald (Dr. Claire Finn).
As per Deadline, Chris Johnson of “47 Meters Down” will make his appearance in “The Orville” season 2 but his role is not yet known. “Gossip Girl” alums Jessica Szohr and Leighton Meester are also joining the cast.
Release Date
“The Orville” season 2 was ordered by Fox TV in November 2017 and now, it is set to premiere on Sunday, Dec. 30. Watch the trailer below:
