‘The Walking Dead’ season 7’s episode 10, titled “New Best Friends," is set to feature Rick as he attempts to negotiate with a mysterious new group in his fight against Negan and the Saviours.
The brief synopsis posted on TV Guide reads, “On the search for a missing Alexandrian, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group encounter a mysterious collective, whose inhabitants are unlike any they have come across.”
The promo for “New Best Friends” opens to Rick and his allies surrounded by an unfamiliar group of survivors, who appeared in the end of the previous episode, titled “Rock in the Road.” Rick’s team is cornered in the junkyard filled with dilapidated cars.
A woman then speaks up and asks Rick casually, “We own your lives. Wanna buy them back?” He replies, “The Saviours - they own our lives... and they will come looking. But there is a way out.” It seem that he is looking to use the moment as an opportunity to recruit more people to his fight against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviours, especially since seeing that the group is heavily armed.
The midseason premiere ended in a cliffhanger, with Rick smiling despite being caught by a new group that looked ready to kill them. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Scott Gimple explained Rick’s unusual reaction to getting captured.
Gimple said, "That smile has a lot to do with the next episode. Rick is caught in this awful situation and you'd think somebody wouldn't be too happy about it — but all these people aren't just a threat; they're an answer.”
He continued, “It's an interesting story and we don't leave the audience on pins and needles about it and we go right into what that smile means in the next episode. There's tough stuff in the next episode but there's straight up fun and attempts are made at humor from the situation that these characters get in. A whole new world is discovered. It's a cool turn of the story."
The identity of the new group remains unknown but Fr. Gabriel’s (Seth Gilliam) appearance in the opening scene may hint at his involvement.
According to Comicbook.com, the upcoming episode will feature reunions and alliances. It was reported that Rick and The Kingdom’s King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) may finally work together in Rick’s rebellion after the latter was clearly hesitant to do so in the previous episode. Daryl (Norman Reedus) will also be reunited with his weapon of choice and may get his killer momentum back.
‘The Walking Dead’ season 7’s episode 10, titled “New Best Friends," was directed by Jeffrey F. January and is scheduled to air on AMC on February 19, 2017. It will be followed by episode 11, titled "Hostiles and Calamities," and is scheduled to be released on February 26, 2017.
