“The Winds of Winter” is really long overdue now and even George RR Martin already admitted that the sixth book in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” series is really late. And the sad thing is that even after almost eight years of delay, even the novel’s exact publishing date is still not available until now.
He previously stated that “The Winds of Winter” will be out by the time he heads to New Zealand to attend the Worldcon in July 2020 thus this date has already been marked by fans as the book’s release date. Since many fans don’t believe him anymore due to his broken promises in the past, the author made a deal that if the book is not in his hands by then, they can lock him up in a cabin to finish ‘TWOW.”
“If I don’t have ‘The Winds of Winter’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done,” he wrote on his blog this past May. “Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine.”
Why is the book being delayed?
George RR Martin once explained that there had been lots of distractions around him; that is why he is struggling to finish “The Winds of Winter.” He cited the “Game of Thrones” as an example because HBO’s TV series has been filming ahead of what he is writing which means the story of the TV version already went ahead since his story is not yet complete.
He said that this bothered him at that time especially because it has become difficult to track the characters’ movements since HBO has been writing the story while he is not even at that point in the series yet like the ending of the show. Aside from this, Martin confessed that he had trouble summarizing his story because he’d written so many chapters, and this is causing the delay as well.
“TWOW” is next
Martin confessed he is struggling to finish “The Winds of Winter” though he has no trouble completing his other books like the “Fire and Blood” which was already in November last year. Then again, the 70-year-old author said that he will not be working on his other novels for now and would focus on “TWOW.” He confirmed that this is his next priority so fans can expect it soon enough.
