Travis Scott’s highly anticipated “Velvet Brown” Air Jordan 1 Low drops on December 21, capping off a year of major footwear collaborations. Adding to the excitement, Nike’s Yardrunners series returns with the VUU Panthers Air Force 1, designed to honor Virginia Union University.

Travis Scott’s ‘Velvet Brown’ Air Jordan 1 Set to Heat Up Winter Sneaker Releases

In a recent report by Sneaker News, 2024 has been monumental for Travis Scott’s footwear collaborations, with the Houston rapper unveiling his first signature styles in the Jordan Jumpman Jack and Nike Zoom Field Jaxx. However, the Air Jordan 1—especially the low-top OG cut—continues to be his most highly anticipated release. Social media buzz suggests many fans agree this year's final release might be the highlight. Following the “Elkins” and “Medium Olive” colorways, the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low will debut in “Velvet Brown” this December.

Numerous previews have shown off this must-have sneaker, with images spotlighting the shoe’s suede upper, leather reverse Swoosh, and rich brown tones that evoke the familiar Travis Scott aesthetic. Like the upcoming Mocha Jumpman Jack, set for release on November 16, the “Velvet Brown” colorway aligns perfectly with fall and winter fashion trends, incorporating earthy, tonal browns ideal for colder seasons.

As the year’s final quarter unfolds, the “Velvet Brown” release is part of a lineup that includes other significant drops like the Wu-Tang Dunk, Jordan 3 Black Cement, and Jordan 11 Legend Blue. On the Jordan Release Dates page, anticipated models such as the Jordan 9 Olive and Jordan 12 Blueberry stand out, though they face fierce competition amid this season’s numerous high-profile launches.

The Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low “Velvet Brown” will only be released on December 21 in adult sizes and will cost $150.

Nike’s Yardrunners Series Honors HBCUs with VUU-Inspired Air Force 1 by Dex Robinson

In a nod to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Nike’s Yardrunners program—created in 2020—celebrates the achievements of HBCU alums through exclusive footwear designs. The latest installment features a special Air Force 1 designed by stylist Dex Robinson, a Virginia Union University alumnus.

Known for his work styling professional athletes like Jalen Hurts and Tyrod Taylor, Robinson founded the streetwear brand DIALLO, which has become popular among influencers such as Offset and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He first collaborated with Nike Yardrunners in 2021, appearing in their campaign and later styling models for future editions.

Robinson’s VUU-inspired Air Force 1 pays homage to the university’s panther mascot. It features faux black pony hair reminiscent of past Air Jordan and Air Force 1 models. This unique material is complemented by iridescent accents around the Swoosh, pebbled leather on the tongue and back tab, and semi-translucent gum soles. Black and red rope laces and custom metal dubraes further emphasize VUU’s legacy as it celebrates its 160th anniversary.

While the release date for the Nike Air Force 1 “VUU Panthers” has yet to be announced, a local drop-in in Virginia this November is likely.
