U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed reports claiming that the United States sent B-1 bombers near Venezuela to increase military pressure on the South American nation. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump firmly stated, “No, it’s false,” when asked about the alleged bomber deployment. However, he added that Washington remains “very unhappy with Venezuela,” signaling ongoing tensions between the two countries.
Earlier in the day, The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. Air Force B-1 bombers had flown near Venezuelan airspace as a show of strength amid strained relations with President Nicolás Maduro’s government. The report suggested the flights were part of a broader U.S. strategy to pressure Caracas over its political and humanitarian crisis. Trump’s denial appears to counter speculation of a military escalation, though his administration has maintained a strong stance against Maduro, often criticizing his regime for corruption, human rights abuses, and economic mismanagement.
Relations between the U.S. and Venezuela have been fraught for years, particularly since Washington imposed sanctions aimed at forcing democratic reforms and fair elections. While the Trump administration has repeatedly voiced support for Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó, it has also warned against any external military intervention that could destabilize the region.
Trump’s clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny of U.S. military movements in Latin America, as regional governments watch closely for signs of potential intervention. Despite his denial, analysts believe Washington will continue applying diplomatic and economic pressure on Venezuela to encourage political change.
