U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, saying she has “lost her way” following her recent remarks opposing his focus on foreign policy. The Georgia lawmaker, once one of Trump’s strongest allies, has increasingly voiced positions that clash with the White House and fellow Republicans.
In a social media post on Monday, Greene criticized Trump for meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, calling him a “former Al Qaeda terrorist.” She urged the president to prioritize domestic issues, saying she wanted to see “nonstop meetings at the White House on U.S. policy, not with foreign leaders.”
Responding to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump acknowledged Greene’s comments, saying, “Nice woman, but I don’t know what happened. She’s lost her way.” The president defended his international focus, stating that global stability directly affects the United States. “I have to view the presidency as a worldwide situation. We could have a world that’s on fire, where wars come to our shores very easily,” Trump said. He added that while al-Sharaa has a “rough past,” diplomatic engagement is necessary.
Greene has recently taken several stances that have surprised her party. She called the war in Gaza a “genocide,” praised former Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “incredible career,” and criticized Trump’s tariff rollout as “bumpy.” She also questioned Trump’s claim that inflation is under control and urged Republicans to create a plan to lower healthcare costs.
The congresswoman has demanded the release of any records related to the late Jeffrey Epstein, a case Trump has dismissed as a “hoax.” Defending her independence, Greene told NBC News, “I’m not some sort of blind slave to the president, and I don’t think anyone should be.”
