President Donald Trump claimed that three U.S. Navy destroyers successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz while coming under attack from Iranian forces. In a statement posted on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump said the American warships were not damaged during the incident, while Iranian attackers allegedly suffered heavy losses.
According to Trump, the destroyers faced hostile fire as they moved through the strategically important waterway, which is considered one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. He stated that the U.S. vessels completed the transit “very successfully” despite the confrontation.
“There was no damage done to the three Destroyers, but great damage done to the Iranian attackers,” Trump wrote. He further claimed that the Iranian forces involved in the attack were “completely destroyed along with numerous small boats.”
The Strait of Hormuz has long been a flashpoint for tensions between the United States and Iran. The narrow passage connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and is vital for global energy exports. Any military confrontation in the area often raises concerns about regional stability and international oil supplies.
Trump’s remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and increasing military activity near key maritime trade routes. However, there has been no immediate confirmation from the U.S. Navy or Iranian officials regarding the reported exchange.
Security experts continue to monitor developments in the region closely, as incidents involving naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz can significantly impact global markets and international relations. The latest claims are expected to draw attention from defense analysts and world leaders assessing the broader implications for U.S.-Iran relations and maritime security in the Gulf region.
