President Donald Trump expressed strong support for FBI Director Kash Patel on Tuesday after a report from MS NOW claimed the president was weighing whether to remove him from his post. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump dismissed the claim, saying Patel was “doing a great job,” a remark aimed at countering speculation about internal frustration within the administration.
According to MS NOW—formerly MSNBC—the president and senior aides had reportedly grown uneasy over negative headlines tied to Patel, leading to discussions about replacing him with Andrew Bailey, the FBI’s co-deputy director. The White House sharply rejected this report, calling it “completely made up.” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt emphasized on X that Trump was meeting with Patel at the very moment the story was published. She shared a photo taken in the Oval Office, adding that Trump laughed at the report and joked with Patel, saying, “Come on Kash, let’s take a picture to show them you’re doing a great job!”
MS NOW, however, stated it stands firmly behind its reporting, citing three unnamed individuals familiar with the internal conversations. The claims come during a period of significant reshuffling within the Justice Department. Since Trump began his second term in January, more than 200 employees have been dismissed, including dozens who worked on cases involving Trump or his associates.
Patel, a longtime Trump loyalist who previously served in senior roles within the Department of Defense and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, has been known for advocating major reforms inside the FBI. His proposals—including stripping the bureau of its intelligence functions and removing employees who do not support Trump’s agenda—have drawn both support and controversy.
Despite ongoing political tension, Trump’s most recent comments underscore his public confidence in Patel and signal no immediate plans for leadership changes at the FBI.
